Walks

Start times and further details can be found on the calendar or under the ‘associated walks’ section below.

Travel
Train - The train journey from Shrewsbury Station to Bristol Temple Meads Station takes approximately two and a half hours, with one change at either Newport or Birmingham New Street.

Car - Car sharing is strongly encouraged, to reduce both carbon footprint and parking costs for those wanting to attend the Balloon Fiesta on the Saturday evening. If you are able to offer lifts to/from walks or socials across the weekend to other ramblers, please do.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you do decide to drive into Bristol City Centre itself at any point during the weekend, please be aware that you may have to pay congestion charges. If your car is ULEZ-compliant, you will not need to pay any charges. However, if you are unsure, please check here to avoid any unwanted fines!: https://www.gov.uk/clean-air-zones

Accommodation
Please arrange your own accommodation.

It would be advisable to book accommodation at a location roughly halfway between Bristol city centre/Ashton Court (where the Balloon Fiesta will take place) and the Mendip Hills/Cheddar Gorge area for ease of travel across the two days.

For example, Chew Magna is around 15 mins away from Ashton Court in one direction and 20 mins away from the Mendip Hills in the other direction.

It may be that accommodation is cheaper in Bristol City Centre, but remember that the drive will take longer to the walk on Sunday 9th!

Please try to let fellow ramblers know if you come across any suitable accommodation options. You may even wish to share. It would be much easier to convene for car-sharing to/from walks and socials if as many of us as possible were to stay geographically close to one another.

CAMPING - there are plenty of options in the Somerset area if you wish to camp. Pitchup is a good website to use: https://www.pitchup.com/campsites/England/South_West/Somerset/chew-magna/

Please note, our walks are open to all Ramblers members, but social events are exclusively for those affiliated to SYR.
