There is a great variety of excellent walks in this area.The dates we choose do the following three walks will depend on weather conditions.
Bigbury-on-Sea loop.
Starting from the caravan park we walk for ~ 8 miles at which point you can either turn down to your nearby caravan (see red arrow pointing to the caravan park) or continue on to complete a 12 mile loop. This walk is roughly half coast path and half inland through fields and on lanes. Graded strenuous. Remember to bring lunch, snacks and a drink. No dogs allowed. Start time 9.30 am. Estimated finish time is 3.30 pm.
South Hams Way linear walk - Buckfastleigh - South Brent. 9 miles
The 100 mile South Hams Way was opened in 2025. More than half follows the coast before turning inland to Dartmoor. It is this latter part that we will explore. Our walk will take us though forests, lanes and the wild open moor of Dartmoor. Moderate. Remember to bring lunch, snacks and a drink. No dogs allowed. Start time ~10 am. Estimated finish time is 3 pm.
Depart caravan park at 8.15 am.
Drive 33 minutes to a car park at 2 Station Rd, South Brent TQ10 9AL. From South Brent we will catch the 38 bus to Buckfastleigh then walk back across the Moor. Bus departs at 9.33am. Parking is a 10 minute walk away from the bus stop. Get off at Buckfastleigh Garage (Stop B) after a short 10 min journey.
Loddiswell and Avon Valley woods. This is a 9 mile walk that is quite easy to shorten. Moderate.
An idyllic walk through heavily wooded valleys taking in both banks of the R. Avon. It's a perfect choice on a hot day. Remember to bring lunch, snacks and a drink. No dogs allowed. Start time 9.30 am. Estimated finish time is 3 pm.
Leave caravan park at 9 am for a 25 min drive. Park on the road beside St Michael and All Angels church, 6 Stile Orchard, Loddiswell, Kingsbridge TQ7 4SB
Friday 11th. Challaborough - Bigbury On Sea - Burgh Island. 4 miles. This is a tide-dependent walk: low tide 12.35 pm
A gentle stroll from the caravan park before we leave. Weather depending. Remember to bring lunch, snacks and a drink. No dogs allowed. Start time 10 am. Estimated finish time is 12pm. Graded easy.
