Kingfisher Ramblers Demo site

A 6.5 mile walk starting from the Alan Higgs Centre on Allard Way, Coventry. The route follows the Sowe Valley Footpath to Whitley Grove Wood before crossing over to meet the River Sherbourne at Whitley Abbey Bridge. From there, the walk follows the Sherbourne north to The Charterhouse (National Trust) where a lunch stop is planned. The return leg goes through a tunnel under a disused branch line, through Pinley Gardens and returns to the car park via a subway under Allard Way.

The going is generally good, with pavements in some places and woodland trails in others. The walk closely follows the course of the River Sowe, but the River Sherbourne is more elusive; in places, the trail detours through built-up areas before re-joining the river.

There are no stiles and the route includes a small ascent in Whitley Grove Wood. There will be one stop for lunch at The Charterhouse (National Trust) where there is some outside seating and a café which is open to passers by. National Trust members can find a seat in the pretty walled garden.

This is a second chance to go on this walk which was first run for a small number of members on a rainy day about a year ago.
